DC BOCCE RAISES $1,000 FOR CHILDREN WITH DIABETES
League teams up with Black Restaurant Group to host four week charity bocce tournament
WASHINGTON – December 12, 2011 – The DC Bocce League, together with Black Restaurant Group, hosted a four week charity bocce tournament to benefit the Washington Nationals Diabetes Care Complex at Children’s National Medical Center. The tournament, hosted on the indoor bocce court at Black Jack, the bar above Pearl Dive Oyster Palace, raised $1,000 to support children with diabetes.
More than 150 players participated in the tournament which concluded with team The Washington Bocce Club taking home the championship trophy. In recognition of their first place status, the $1,000 donation will be made in their name. While the big win was an exciting achievement for the team, they were equally delighted that their win will benefit a charitable cause.
“Black Restaurant Group was honored to partner with the DC Bocce League for their latest tournament and we are looking forward to having them at our venue in the future,” said Mallory Buford, manager Pearl Dive Oyster Palace. “We are always trying to work with local organizations that are giving back to the community and the DC Bocce League is doing that.”
The DC Bocce League has a long history of awarding top teams charitable donations in their honor. More than $85,000 in contributions have been sent out to non-profit groups locally, nationally and internationally.
“A commitment to the communities where we play is one of our founding tenants,” said League President John Groth. “When we heard that Black Restaurant Group was raising money for the Washington Nationals Diabetes Care Complex at Children’s National Medical Center, we thought of the indoor bocce court at Black Jack as a natural way to partner on behalf of an excellent cause.
The DC Bocce League and Black Restaurant Group are partnering again in 2012 for a winter season of bocce on the indoor court at Black Jack. Registration is now open for winter and play begins in mid-January. Remaining true to the League’s founding principles, the first place winners will receive a donation to the charity of their choosing at the conclusion of the season.
